My Energy Medicine Techniques
The self-treatment instructions for EFT can be found here!
If you are unfamiliar with energy medicine in general and have not yet seen my Overview of Energy Medicine page, I suggest you start there to better understand the content here.
I don’t use energy medicine techniques on everybody, but if I do use one or more of them with you, be aware that they can seem pretty strange at first, so I ask that you try to keep an open mind and wait and see how it works for you before passing judgment.
To help you do that, for office visits that are primarily for any of the energy medicine methods I’m about to discuss, I do them on a trial basis for new patients, meaning you don’t owe me anything until you’re satisfied that they were of value to you – and if we don’t get to a point where you are satisfied, you don’t owe me anything for those treatments… ever!
There are people these techniques don’t work for, but most people are pretty amazed at the results and they’re usually happy to pay me, so I think that says a lot!
ASERT (Allergy and Sensitivity Elimination and Reprogramming Technique) – This is a slightly modified and streamlined version of a somewhat better-known technique called NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique).
I use muscle testing with homeopathic preparations or direct samples of common allergens, looking for what causes the patient’s outstretched arm to get weak.
The homeopathic vials I use for testing can be thought of as the “energy pattern” of the given allergen that’s imprinted through a special process on the liquid inside the vials. This is similar in concept to storing information on a computer disc, just using a liquid medium rather than metal, glass, or plastic.
Although I usually use one arm or the other, different muscles can be used for testing if the patient has pain or injury and the arms can’t be used.
In fact, in cases where the patient is too young or is otherwise unable to follow the directions for testing, a different person’s muscle can be tested (what’s called “surrogate testing”), as the electrical reactions pass from one person to another if they are touching each other.
So, yes, this weird procedure can get even weirder!
Anyway, the electrical and neurological responses that cause a weakness are obviously affecting the muscular system, but that’s a sign that other systems are being affected as well.
In the case of allergies, this manifests as an overreaction of the immune system to pollens, foods, skin irritants, etc., and symptoms like congestion, itchy eyes, digestive problems, and/or skin rashes.
Once I’ve done the testing and determined what the body is reacting to, I move on to the desensitization procedure.
Tapping on acupressure points and laser acupuncture (there’s no needles and it’s painless!) is done to “re-set” the body’s energy system, somewhat like resetting a computer.
The idea is to restore a normal level of reactivity and eliminate the weakness caused by the allergens.
In addition to restoring muscle strength in the presence of the reactive allergens, ASERT typically reduces or eliminates common allergy symptoms – usually for several months to several years, and this can often be achieved in as little as a single visit (those patients with lots of allergies will typically require multiple visits)!
BRT (Body Restoration Techinique) – As with ASERT, the evaluation for BRT is done with muscle testing, sometimes using homeopathic vials of toxins, pathogens, hormones, and other things that can adversely affect your health, and sometimes holding points on the body that correspond to various organs and systems.
Once a problem is identified, tapping of acupressure points is used to re-set the energy flow. This often brings about rapid, often immediate, improvement in pain and other symptoms, even long-standing ones that have been resistant to many other treatments.
Here again, in some cases it may only take a single visit for long-lasting results, although more complicated or long-standing problems may require several visits for lasting effects.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) – Once again, muscle testing is used to assess the problem – in this case, issues of unwanted thought patterns and various physical reactions to emotional stress.
Although tapping of acupressure points is also used in EFT, the points are different from those used in ASERT and BRT, and the point tapping is done while the patient verbally repeats an affirmation related to the thought pattern or emotional issue found with the muscle testing evaluation.
This is not a substitute for counseling, merely a way to reduce the “charge” of an emotional issue and calm things down as needed.
The idea here is to use the acupressure stimulation to re-set the body’s responses to the thought or emotional triggers, allowing not only for a reduction in the perceived intensity of emotional responses, but also a reduction in the body’s physical reactions to them.
From a chiropractic standpoint, this is quite helpful because alleviating stress-related muscle tension allows for faster recovery in musculoskeletal complaints, sometimes dramatically faster.
Just to give you an idea of how powerful the mind-body connection can be, I once had a patient come in with a frozen shoulder that had started suddenly without any particular trauma – he just woke up with it one day. He could barely move his arm without severe pain.
I proceeded to do all my usual shoulder techniques, but was getting nowhere, so I decided to check things out with muscle testing.
His very skeptical wife who was sitting in the treatment room had her arms crossed and was overtly rolling her eyes as I did my tests, which showed that it was an emotional reaction, specifically anger.
The patient insisted he wasn’t angry about anything, but at this point I figured I had nothing to lose in terms of my credibility with he and his wife and I proceeded to do the EFT procedure on him, at which point I thought his wife might actually injure her eyes she was rolling them so hard!
I finished the EFT sequence and asked him to try moving his arm. He gave me a pretty doubtful look, but humored me and was shocked to find that he had full range of motion back with zero pain. His wife about fell out of her chair!
EFT is not only very effective, it’s also fairly easy to learn and use for self-treatment.
You can learn how to do it here!
That covers the main energy medicine techniques that I use. As I said, they are kind of weird, and they don’t work in every case, but when they do work they can produce some amazing results!
